First, there is no"2.7 XP version". I think you are referring to the Windows Vista version of Windows Movie Maker 2.6 that is basically a CPU-only version using the XP code for those on Vista that didn't have a powerful enough GPU. Although Windows Essentials is not supported (won't get any updates) anymore, you still can download the offline installer. During the installation you can choose which programs you want to install. Hope this helps. *much later EDIT. May 4, 2018: I won't participate anymore in MC. Enough is enough.

Yes - You Can Still Download Windows Movie Maker 2012
In December, Microsoft annouced it was ending support for its suite of lifestyle apps, Windows Essentials. The last version launched in 2012 with the release of Windows 8. Since then, the software has been in maintenance mode. Even though the software firm promised to remove the software by January 10, 2017, its still available for download. Hello - I have been using Windows Movie Maker on my Windows 10 (now upgraded to 11) laptop for the past few years. I have had the appropriate CODECs loaded and able to use MP4, MOV, etc files with both Media Player and Movie Maker. In mid-Nov, there appears to have been an update as a few general Windows features were modified.

Installing Windows Live Essentials 2012 on Windows 11
Windows Live Essentials have been discontinued since quite some years ago. It is never tested on recent Windows builds (including Windows 11) so there's no guarantee of anything at this point even if you manage to get it installed. I will suggest that you consider alternatives, such as Windows Mail app, Windows Photos app, etc.

When I upgraded to Windows 11, I lost my beloved Movie Maker, on which I posted so many travel videos. I am a travel writer and that program was my go-to for simple and beautiful videos. I would appreciate any help as to where I can find an"old fashioned" Windows 7 version of Movie Maker, and happy to pay. Thanks for any advice.
